What oral cancer can look like early
Oral cancer can begin as a small change inside the mouth. A non-healing ulcer, a red or white patch, bleeding, pain while chewing, loose teeth without clear dental reason, difficulty opening the mouth, or a lump in the neck should not be ignored. These signs do not always mean cancer, but they do need timely medical or dental evaluation.
Who should be extra careful?
People who use tobacco, gutkha, khaini, betel quid, or alcohol have a higher risk. Families in Birbhum, Murshidabad, and nearby areas should also watch for symptoms in people who have long-term irritation from sharp teeth, ill-fitting dentures, or repeated mouth injuries.
When to see a doctor
If a mouth ulcer or patch does not heal within two weeks, or if pain, bleeding, swelling, voice change, or difficulty swallowing continues, book a consultation. Bring previous prescriptions, dental notes, biopsy reports, or scans if available.
What to expect at Asha
The team reviews symptoms, examines the mouth and neck, and may advise biopsy, imaging, or specialist review. If cancer is confirmed, treatment may involve surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or a combination depending on the stage and site.
